I'm sure that to Nintendo including this piece of plastic makes complete and perfect business sense. They probably believe that this stand will either encourage "casuals" to buy the game or solve some nonexistent problem they believe is holding games like this from selling millions.
Whatever their reasoning I can tell you that it's stupid and will have little to no effect on sales of the game. Unlike Nintendo's other plastic peripherals this one is completely unnecessary and adds nothing to the gameplay. If they want to turn their mediocre franchises around they should focus on actually making the games better.
